Being a voice for the children and families who do not fit into the standard delivery of education. Traditional classroom learning does not work for every child. Some need technological support, some need more time and some need a different classroom setting. I am a strong believer that our educators and our education system can adapt to the needs of our children to help them be successful.
Focus on in-classroom learning and finding the proper place for online education. There is a time and place for online learning. In fact, for some children, it is a path for success. However, I witnessed the application of online learning for young children (SK to Grade 4) during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, and found that the applications where it was useful were severely limited. Our children deserve to be in the classroom being taught by trained educators and socializing with their peers.
Promoting diversity and inclusion. Our classrooms are getting more diverse every day. Our education system, curriculum, programs and opportunities need to reflect this. From LGBTQ+ persons to refugees seeking a new life, our schools need to be welcoming and inclusive. We have come a long way, but there is so much more we can do.
Ensuring that the budget is allocated properly and appropriately.
